First time in Greece

Hi from the road…Sorry it has taken so long to get this blog thing going- Have been trying to finish the new record. We are starting the tour tomorrow. I am in Athens for the first time- actually my first time in Greece. Getting here finally, was like an odyssey of its own for me.

The people have all been so warm and excited that I've finally made it here after 22 years of touring Europe. I'm fillin up on too much baklava. I'm trying to read about the country but so far it all looks like Greek to me.

I was invited to present the last award of the show "the artist of the year" at the MAD TV Music awards at Vrachon Amphtheatre last night and it was a lot of fun!! New friends in a beautiful part of this world.

Can't wait to integrate the brand new music into the live show. I have a good feeling this is going to be a very very busy and profound year!! Love, MB

Photos soon!

  10. Hi Michael,

Really cool that you are writing a blog for us. Thought I would share some interesting facts with you as you tour. Sofia Bulgaria is one of the oldest cities in Europe, can be traced back 7000 years and sits at the foot of Mount Vitosha. Situated in the Sofia Valley it is surrounded by mountains on all sides. Three ancient mountain passes lead to the City and the City centre is well known for being paved with yellow Viennese cobblestones. The Church of St. George dates from the 4th century and is situated in the courtyard of the Sheraton Sofia Hotel. It is considered the oldest building in Sofia and has Medieval frescoes in the central dome. The National Palace of Culture is the lagest multifunctional complex in Southeastern Europe, inaugurated in 1981 and is situated in lush green park surroundings.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Sofia and perhaps you can let us know your views on the City and the Palace of Culture.

    Keep well and happy,
    Luv Hilary xxx

  14. Loved the clips on the forum of you all in Bucharest. The show looked awesome. The people in the audience were standing, singing and taking loads of pics, only wish I was one on them. You seemed so emotional when you sang How am I supposed to live without you. Wonder what you are doing this minute, eating, sleeping, travelling, be safe, love....

  17. Hi Michael
Hope that you enjoyed Sofia and I'm sure the concert was a fantastic and outstanding success.
Little bit on Istanbul for you as its your next concert date - largest city in Turkey and fifth largest city in the world. Also only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents, western portion in Europe and eastern portion in Asia. 70% of Istanbulites live in European section and 30% live in Asian section.
Istanbul has the nickname of City on Seven Hills because the oldest part of the city was built on 7 hills just like Rome and each one bears a historic mosque. Has 2 underground railways and one is believed to be the second oldest subterranean urban rail line in the world after the London Underground. However some believe that Istambul is 3rd oldest with Brooklyn's abandoned Atlantic Avenue Tunnel coming in at 2nd.
Kurucesme Arena was once a warehouse for coal distrubution and is now an exceptionally large venue for large events. I am sure that you will fill this with all your fans with no trouble at all and I know that your concert will be the most fantastic show on earth!
    Enjoy Turkey, safe travelling,
    Luv Hilary xxx

  23. Hi Michael,

Looks like you are having a fantastic tour - it can only get better for you, enjoy!
Bit about Beirut your next stop. Named the number one Place to Visit in 2009 by The New York Times and listed as one of the top ten liveliest cities in the world in 2009 by the Lonely Planet. In 2006 Beirut was ranked 9th best city in the world, falling just short of New York City and coming ahead of San Francisco.
The Hippodrome Du Parc De Beyrouth is a horse track built in 1885 in Bir Hassan, a suburb of Beirut. It was moved in 1918 to a location on Abdallah Al Yafi Avenue adjacent to Horsh Beirut. In addition to national and international horse races, the Hippodrome also hosts The Garden Show every spring.
Bierut is flanked by the Lebanon mountains. The coast is rather diverse; rocky beaches, sandy shores, and cliffs are situated beside one another.
Despite the global economic downturn (2007 till present), Lebanons bank survived the great crisis. This was made possible by the strict regulations of loan lendings and other credit payments issued by the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon. As of 2009, he was made "The World Best Central Bank Governor 2009", for being able to prevent the negative financial situation for reaching Lebanon.

Sure you will enjoy Beirut and I am also very sure that your concert will be a fantastic success!

  29. Hi Michael,

Back in Greece again for your second concert - sure this one will be even bigger and better than the first one was!

Little about Athens - The history of Athens begins more then 3000 years ago when during the prehistoric times its first inhabitants created their first settlement on the rock of Acropolis. The historical centre of Athens is the most important area of the city for the thousand of tourists who are visiting the Greek capital in order to admire the shrine of Democracy the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the museums and the monuments and theatres from the glorious past of Athens.

Plaka used to be called by the Greeks the neighbourhood of the gods, today Plaka is one of the main attractions for restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. Athens is a paradise for shopping, all kind of shops are to be found in the most famous shopping areas of Athens the Ermou street, Aiolou street and in the area of Kolonaki. For books and music instruments try Solonos and Academias street.

For food in Athens there are all kinds of restaurants with local, international and ethnic cuisine, grill houses, Greek souvlaki shops and pizzerias. Most of the restaurants are found in the area of Plaka, in Psiri, in Monastiraki and in Thission. Most of the restaurants in Plaka are along the Kydathineon street where you will find the Restaurant Plaka, Akropol and the restaurant Byzantino one of the oldest in the area.

One thing you must get used to in Greece is the Olive oil, almost in any food Greeks love to add lots of oil. There is no Greek Salad without olive oil ,no onions, Greek tomatoes and feta without olive oil! It is believed that this is probably one reason why the Greeks have one of the highest life expectancies in Europe! The Greeks use a lot of veggies and spices in their food but the spices are mild. Tytopita (Greek cheese pie) and the Koulouri (the Greek crispy croissant topped with sesame)are two favourites of the Greeks.

You may like to try the Greek wines like the wines of Santorini , the wines of Crete, the wines of Samos or the Retsina from Mesogeia of Attica.

Happy eating, drinking and shopping! Do also enjoy the concert, it will be a megga success!

    Keep safe and well,
    Luv Hilary xxx

  32. Hi Michael,

You are probably still on stage in Athens as I write this but I'm sure the concert is and has been a great success!

In a couple of days you will be back on stage this time in Porto, Portugal, so a little bit about the city which is the second largest city after Lisbon. Oporto sits astride a great gorge built into granite cliffs at the point where the River Douro enters the Atlantic. Porto was selected the 2001 European Capital of Culture.

Known mainly for its trade in Port wine and an array of architectural gems from Roman, Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassic and Renaissance eras. It is said that you must sample its legendary port wine, processed, blended and aged in the various lodges of the Vila Nova da Gaia district across the river from the city. There is more than 50 wine companies who operate their 'lodges' in the winding narrow streets flanked by red-roofed buildings. Among the best known are Sandemans, housed in a former 16th century convent, and Taylors. The suburb also features a 16th century monastery that has interesting circular cloisters and a terrace where the Duke of Wellington planned his attack on the French in 1809.

A great place to eat in Vila Nova de Gaia is the Taylor Port works, where you'll find Restaurnate Barao Fladgate. Great food, wine, and view of Porto.

The city also has an historic riverside district called Ribeira, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is possible to cruise down the River Douro to take in the scenic splendour of the area.

On the Oporto waterfront stands the church of St. Frances, dating from 1383, which, while not very imposing from the outside, has a lavishly Baroque decorated interior that was created in the 17th and 18th centuries. Pillars and columns within the vault are festooned with gold-gilded cherubs and flower garlands, entwined animals and fruit cornucopia.

I hope you have time for a little sightseeing and wine tasting!

    Keep safe and well,
    Luv Hilary xxx
